Abstract

The purpose of this research is to clarify the causality between coach-athlete relationship, exercise immersion, and intention to quit in the middle perceived by gymnasts and verify the mediating effect of exercise immersion at the same time. To achieve the research purpose, the study conducted a survey on gymnasts in middle school or higher who participated in the National Gymnastics Contest in 2016, analyzed the suitability and validity of collected data through confirmatory factor analysis, measured model analysis, and correlation analysis among the observed variables, and verified the hypothesis using structural equation model analysis. The results demonstrated that first, coach-athlete relationship had a positive (+) influence on exercise immersion. Second, exercise immersion had a negative (-) influence on the intention to quit in the middle. Third, coach-athlete relationship had a negative (-) influence on the intention to quit in the middle. Lastly, exercise immersion mediated partially in the relationship of coach-athlete relationship and the intention to quit in the middle.
