Abstract

The tendency to create "big states" based on nationalist ideology continues to be relevant in the modern world, and similar ideas, actually not having a peaceful-negotiated solution, lead to new wars and conflicts. The "Greater Albania" project is a vivid example of at tendency. The ideology of "Greater Albania" appeared on the eve of the First World War, at the end of the 19th century, during the period of aggravation of geopolitical conflicts. The interests of the former allies (Russia, Great Britain, Austria, etc.) competed with each other, which had an impact on the “national-liberation movements” in the Balkan Peninsula. Albanian politicians and diplomats speak cautiously about “Greater Albania”. Currently, the realization of the “Greater Albania” project can be characterized as unpromising and contrary to the interests of Albanians in Albania, as a result of which Albania may face serious economic and financial problems.
