Abstract
The article considers the concept of symbolic capital of the city as a derivative of local urban identity. The necessary conditions for the formation of symbolic resources that make up this type of capital are analysed for its successful use in project initiatives for territorial development in order to create a methodology for assessing the potential of convertibility of symbolic capital into project initiatives for territorial development.
