Abstract

The article presents the results of the study of the correlation between loneliness experience and cognitive biases of university students. It has revealed the interrelation between the index of general loneliness with dysfunctional attributes and basic views. The regression analysis has found that on the one hand, the conviction that the outer world is hostile and people are mean, contributes to experiencing loneliness, and on the other hand, social communication addiction influences the development of cognitive biases. Thus, “lonely” students attribute the reasons of their loneliness to their personality traits, and tend to reason about their own shortcomings; they may prefer to stay alone and find something positive in it. “Not lonely” students, when experiencing loneliness, seek ways to communicate with somebody.
