Abstract

This article describes in detail the unpublished manuscript by the famous Soviet architect Yakov O. Rubanchik, written in 1939-1940 and entitled “My Architect's Confession”. The author takes a critical view of his creative activity in 1920-1930s, and namely architectural design and architectural engineering, his participation in competitions, town-planning projects to reconstruct the squares in Leningrad and Taganrog, graphic art and printmaking, his teaching at the Academy of Arts, research activities and studies of the history of Russian cities. The original manuscript is in the collection of Shchusev State Museum of Architecture, a copy thereof was provided to the author of this article by the Sverdlovs family.
