Abstract

June 6, 2023 marks the 110th anniversary of the birth of V. G. Kort, an outstanding oceanologist, director of the Institute of Oceanology of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1953–1965), Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Honored Scientist RSFSR, twice laureate of the State Prizes of the USSR (as part of groups of authors): for studies of the western boundary currents in the Atlantic (1971) and as an editor-in-chief for the ten-volume monograph “Pacific Ocean” (1977) – a fundamental work summing up knowledge about the nature and resources of the greatest ocean planets.
