Abstract

During its existence of over two centuries, the Serbian church territory of the Metropolitanate of Karlovci (1708-1920) produced a significant number of important and meritorious figures with an remarkable activity for the Serbian people. A very high raking in this gallery of spiritual leaders of the Serbian Orthodox Church, whose archpastorship marked the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century is the Archbishop of Karlovci, Serbian Metropolitan and Patriarch Georgije Branković (⁎1830†1907). The span of his activities is wide and substantial. He was an eminent church leader he was a tireless preacher of Christ’s Gospel, a missionary, a builder and restaurateur, a founder, a worker in education and a representative of the people. This article is dedicated to a less represented and studied segment of his activity: the development and the improvement of the church homiletics and the sermon service, the “service of words”, during his lead of the Metropolitanate of Karlovci.
