Abstract

This paper pursues to think about the ontological beauty in Heidegger through his interpretation of Van Gogh’s painting. At first, Heidegger doesn’t not deal with Beauty, but with Truth in interpreting Van Gogh’s painting. This attitude is originated from his intention of ontology. The Truth in which he deals with in Gogh’s painting is Aletheia, not Apophansis Truth. So according to Heidegger, Van Gogh’s painting reveals Being in which a peasant uses the shoes has unconscious Trust of her life through destroying Utility of the shoes. The revealed Being is the Truth of Aletheia, Art is establishing Being as Aletheia into artwork. This is ontological beauty in artworks. This ontological beauty in Heidegger shows that Dasein’s Existential Truth eventually contains aesthetic connotations. And Heidegger tries to destroy tradition of western metaphysics through his Fundamental Ontology. In other hands, Heidegger suggests a new horizon of aesthetics between Objective Aesthetics of Plato tradition and Subjective Aesthetics of Kant philosophy through his thinking of the ontological beauty as Aletheia of Being. To conclude, we recognize that Heidegger’s ontological beauty gives us new criteria of Truth and Beauty, and finally Heidegger’s thinking of Being leads us to a new thought paradigm through overcoming western thought tradition as Platonism.
