Abstract
According to the draft, deep radioactive waste disposal facility proposed to be excavated in the Nizhnekanskiy rock mass involves a system of horizontal parallel excavations arranged at two levels at depths of 450 and 525 m. The paper considers the issues of the strength of chain pillars between the excavations of the operational horizon (-70 m) at a depth of 525 m from the ground surface. The rock pressure generated by gravitational and tectonic forces is calculated as well as the safety margin for the rock chain pillars. The paper evaluates the extent to which they meet the long-term safety requirements. Certain proposals are being provided on possible adjustment of the mine layout.
