Abstract

The article is devoted to investigating the extension of the functional class of lexical units verbalizing the concept GRADUALITY in modern English. The author studies adverbs that like adverbs of degree are used as degree modifiers and singles out their main specific features. The study shows that the extension of the functional class of degree modifiers occurs to a great extent due to new degree modifiers that are adverbs formed by suffixation on the basis of adjectives expressing high / very high feature degree implicitly.
