Abstract

In this article, cowrie shells from the family of cypriae have been studied, which have been used since ancient times by many peoples, and which served as a kind of money. The fnds of cowrie shells in the territory of the Minusinsk Basin and the modern Republic of Tuva in archaeological sites are analyzed. In Tuva, the period of the Scythian culture is considered, where it begins to be found in archaeological artifacts as an object of study. In addition, the practical signifcance of the use of kaori shells today in shamanic rites is revealed
