Abstract

The research objectives are as follows: to reveal the process of native idioms acquisition by preschoolers at the age of 4 to 7, to identify the difficulties preschoolers come across while learning idioms. The article considers the problems of forming preschoolers’ active and passive vocabulary, describes the factors influencing idiomatic expressions perception, emphasizes the necessity of an interdisciplinary approach to this issue. Scientific originality of the study involves developing a set of psycholinguistic tests aimed to analyze the process of idioms acquisition at the preschool stage of speech ontogenesis. The following conclusions are justified: from the age of four children can perceive and understand the figurative meaning of idioms, idioms perception is determined by gender peculiarities of thinking.
