Abstract
The article is devoted to honoring the memory of the famous Ukrainian lexicographer and phraseologist, candidate of philological sciences, senior researcher, laureate of the State Prize in the field of science, long-term employee of the Institute of Linguistics named after O. O. Potebni of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Lydia Andronivna Yurchuk on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of her birth (04.06.1923– 06.06.2011). The life and creative path of L. A. Yurchuk is highlighted, her contribution to the development of Ukrainian linguistics ⸺ lexicology, lexicography, phraseology and phraseography is outlined, in particular, the most important lexicographic works created with her active participation are considered: Ukrainian-Russian Dictionary in 6 volumes (1953– 1963), Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language in 11 volumes (1970– 1980), Phraseological Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language in 2 volumes. (1993). The directions of L. A. Yurchuk’s research at various stages of scientific activity are outlined: the issue of suffix word formation of verbs in the modern Ukrainian language, the display of verb control in the Dictionary of the Ukrainian language, the relationship between the syntactic features of a word and its lexical meaning, illustrative material as a means of semantic characterization of a word in explanatory dictionary, theoretical principles of the register of the phraseological dictionary of the Ukrainian language, basics of Ukrainian phraseology, etc. Dictionaries of translation, interpretation and phraseological types, which the researcher worked on, are presented. The role of the editor, executive secretary of the editorial board of the eleven-volume explanatory dictionary, head of the phraseological dictionary group as a coordinator of work on lexicographic works was noted. It is concluded that the scientific output of the lexicologist and phraseographer L. A. Yurchuk vividly illustrates the lexicographic process of the second half of the 20th century. With her active participation, the most significant dictionaries of this period were created, the theoretical foundation of the new scientific field of phraseography, which is successfully developing, was laid. The scientific heritage of L. A. Yurchuk contributes to the elevation of the prestige of Ukrainian linguistic science, in particular lexicology, lexicography and phraseography.
