Abstract
The scientific review of vegan nutrition for children and adolescents includes links to position papers from various scientific professional organizations in the field of nutrition and pediatrics. Over the past two decades, specialized associations have issued official statements and published position papers on the possibilities of following vegetarian diets at various stages of human life, including pregnancy and lactation, infancy and childhood. Some of these associations strongly support the idea that a well-thought-out vegetarian diet can be adequate in terms of the composition of the nutrients obtained, and support the normal growth and development of the child. At the same time, special attention is paid to careful diet planning, implementation of the necessary vitamins and microelements, regular medical and dietary monitoring. At the same time, some pediatric associations warn against the use of a vegan diet in children and adolescents, citing the potential harm and lack of high-quality clinical studies on this issue. The review presents the results of modern studies comparing the nutritional adequacy of vegetarian diets and traditional nutrition in childhood.
