Abstract

The article focuses on the methodology of preparing a future teacher of philology to write an essay with students. The "Methodological Recommendations on the teaching of the Ukrainian language in the academic year 2018/2019 " states: "Modern social and cultural conditions, the integration of Ukrainian education into the European context leads to the introduction of such kind of written work in the curriculum as an essay. It is aimed at activating the educational and cognitive activity of students, raising their interest in studying, development of personality, critical thinking, linguistic creativity". Solving the set tasks requires creative work of the teacher, the preparation of practical classes, which would facilitate the instruction of a qualified specialist capable of self-education and self-improvement throughhout the life. The essay as a literary genre has been researched more thoroughly than any type of the writing work. In particular, in the Ukrainian linguistic pedagogy, O. Hlazova has studied essays a type of work on the development of the written language of schoolchildren; N. Hrona considers an essay as a communicative form of the text in the system of text making abilities of junior students; K. Shenderovskyi introduces methodological recommendations for writing an essay; L. Tomashchuk considers writing an essay a task directed at the development of critical thinking and creative abilities of students. Given this, the question of creating texts of various types, in particular essays, and teacher’s training for such work needs to be further investigated. The publication offers exercises and tasks aimed at identifying essays as a type of work that develops speech, the types and structure of an assay; differences between essays, and exercises on the development of critical thinking; as well as practical exercises and tasks preparing for the development of a conspectus or a fragment of the lesson of writing an essay and for future professional activity.
