Abstract

This study is judging that Yan Lianke's novel titled ≪Serve the People≫ criticizes the oppressive emotion of revolution in the period of Cultural Revolution and stirs up the recovery of the most primitive and basic dignity. For this, first, the aim is to explore the narrative structure that is transferred from the language of revolution to the language of desire, and again to the language of love and the language of recovering humanity. This process will lead to being known how the description of taboo is indicated as the recovery of human nature, to being disclosed the false of revolution and to being revealed the true nature. Second, the aim is to examine the device of having exposed false. What twists a sexual desire off as the recovery of human nature is being decided as Mao zedong's political slogan dubbed 'Serve the People.' Accordingly, the inquiry is aimed to be made focusing on 'symbol' or 'desire' that is shown by a tree sign of this slogan. Also, the aim is to explore the false, which is being exposed by the entity of desire, through Wu Dangwang and Liu lian who are the appearing characters.
