Abstract

The article considers the evolution of the mythology of the Old Believers as a factor in their religious and cultural identity. The myth-making of the Old Believers, which began with the legend and idealization of the events of the early history of the schism, reflected in the moral and ethical characteristics of its participants, became an integral part of the Old Believer worldview and psychological type, at the same time being transformed into realistic, creative forms of life. The most important of them was the colonization of Siberia, during which the main advantage of the Old Believers was its spiritual potential based on the conviction of the correctness of their principles and the truth of the doctrine.
