Abstract

During the political repression of the Joseon Dynasty and the numerous wars in the Korean peninsula, many temples were destroyed and cultural assets were lost. However, it is our reality that we have not even been able to investigate this. In this situation, it is very difficult to restore and take it to its original location cultural assets that has been neglected and scattered in each region. This paper shows the problems of the conservation and management of the lost cultural properties by presenting the examples of Jincheon Yonghwa-sa Temple and tried to provide an alternative to them. For this purpose, this paper first examined Jincheon Yonghwa-sa Temple and its cultural heritage, and then described the actual state of Buddhist artifacts scattered around Yonghwa-sa Temple. In particular, this paper provided an important case for the management of the lost cultural property of the Buddhist temple destroyed by introducing the stone artifact near the Buddhist temple which has not yet been returned and the process of the return of the lost stone Buddhist statue. Based on the results, we discussed the efforts of the recovery of the cultural assets spilled in and out of Korea, the evaluation for such efforts, and the Buddhist alternatives for conservation and management of the lost cultural assets.
