Abstract

The problem of determining residual life of structures under fatigue loading in the absence of data on the parameters of the effective loads is considered. It is shown that, in the case when fatigue failure zones are detected in the structure, it is possible to determine loading parameters that are equivalent in their damaging effect according to the real loading history. Stress amplitude and number of loading cycles are taken as parameters of equivalent loading. To solve this problem, models of the nucleation and growth of fatigue cracks in stress concentrators are used. Based on these models, diagrams correlating the number of loading cycles and stress amplitude, adequate to the dimensions of the observed fatigue cracks, are constructed. The intersection of the diagrams corresponds to the solution of the problem in question. Examples of determining unknown loading parameters for the case of fatigue cracks developing from defects of welded seams in the form of internal pores and cold welds in the root of the seam are given. Keywords: resource, defects of welded joints, fatigue, fatigue crack.
