Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the mediated effect of emotional intelligence on the relationship between perceived racket sports players coach’s autonomy support and behavioral anger.<BR> Methods: To this end, 101 badminton players, 148 tennis players, and a total of 249 racket athletes were surveyed on the perceived coach’s autonomy support, emotional intelligence, and behavioral anger. Structural model verification and bootstrapping were performed using the SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 22.0 programs.<BR> Results: The analysis of the collected data showed that, first, emotional intelligence was mediated in the relationship between the coach’s autonomy support and anger expression. Second, emotional intelligence was found to be mediated in the relationship between the coach’s autonomy support and functional anger expression.<BR> Conclusion: These findings suggest that the coach’s autonomy support and athlete’s emotional intelligence reduce dysfunctional anger expression and increase functional anger expression. Therefore, the coach needs to develop an athlete’s emotional intelligence through the support of the athlete’s autonomy, thereby reducing the athletes" dysfunction and improving their performance through functional anger expression.
