Abstract

The aim of the study is to identify the essential properties of a consumerist who is becoming the main type of a person in a postindustrial society. The article provides a brief overview of the main ideas about a consumerist in modern social philosophy; considers the issue of objective and subjective factors that contribute to the formation of a consumerist; identifies the ways to neutralize consumerization of the modern society. The scientific originality of the research lies in the fact that the authors have compiled a holistic social portrait of a consumerist in the combination of his positive and negative properties. The result of the study is the substantiation of the fact that a consumerist manifests himself primarily in the consumer sphere, contributes to the emergence of negative processes in the development of the society, which must be identified and neutralized.
