Abstract

scientific and methodological issues of studying clayey soils and determining their mechanical properties are considered on the standpoint of the physicochemical theory of effective stresses in soils. The modern theoretical base of research assumes estimate only the effect of external loads on the soil and their relationship but does not consider its internal structure. It is shown that the value of the forces of interaction between the particles of clayey soils determines their structure, properties, and character of the deformations under various conditions of external loads. A practical method of clayey soils studying is considered. This methodology makes it possible to determine the value of internal stresses between the mineral particles of the clayey soils
