Abstract
The development of the service sector in the segment of small and medium-sized businesses plays an important role in modern conditions of economic development. At the same time, among the services, the most innovative and developing type of them is design, the significance and versatility of which is undeniable. Design is inextricably linked with a number of industry varieties, primarily with the so-called “creative industries” and develops in parallel with the spheres of architecture, construction, information technology and telecommunications systems. Within the framework of the study, attention is paid to the innovative field of industrial design abroad, its priority areas are determined. The capacity of the design services market in Russia, the factors of its prospective development against the background of overcoming sanctions threats are determined. Statistical data on the development of sub-sectors of this sphere in the Kirov region are presented.
