Abstract

The proposed work is based on the material of a conversation with Natalia Sergeevna Gulyanitskaya, Doctor of Art History, Professor, Honored Worker of the Higher School of the Russian Federation. The conversation touched upon topics that invariably concern everyone who works at a higher educational institution — about the role of science and pedagogy and their intersections; about the influence of scientific and pedagogical schools; about unforgettable teachers. A special question is connected with the peculiarities of teaching harmony in our academy. Thanks, first of all, to Prof. Gulyanitskaya, this discipline began to be taught in a completely new way. Students of the late 1970s — early 1980s remembered the harmony of «Gulyanitskaya» as something unprecedented for that time. The novelty of the course was connected with the development of the latest musical material, Russian and Western, and with the rethinking of the role of harmony as part of the poetics of the artistic whole. The interview also touches on issues related to the introduction of new courses — Methodology of Musicology, Modern Composition.
