Abstract
The paper analyses organization of studies on youth problems in the 1980-2000s. The article reveals the role of Komsomol and agencies for youth affairs in studying youth problems, emphasizes relevance of this research area under the conditions of radical social transformations, justifies necessity of scientific approach to determining the basic trends in youth work. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the author provides a comprehensive analysis of scientific provision of youth work, introduces previously unpublished archival documents into scientific circulation. The findings indicate that in the mentioned period, scientific provision of youth work was largely determined by socio-economic, political, administrative factors.
