Abstract

The article considers the problem of ambiguous interpretations of the lexico-grammatical status of nouns - game names - in scientific and educational literature. Traditional viewpoints on this issue are presented. Semantic and grammatical features of the lexical units under study are analysed. The conducted research allows identifying close relation of semantics of abstractedness to the primary concrete meaning of the linguistic units under study. Relying on a cognitive-pragmatic analysis, the authors determine the place of game names in the system of lexico-grammatical categories.
