Abstract

This article is devoted to the role and status of English language and the development of the English language in Kyrgyzstan, taking into account the global processes related to its functioning in the world and in the post-Soviet Kyrgyzstan. Considering language as a multidimensional phenomenon implies a multiplicity of its complementary statuses and the sociolinguistic functions it performs. The proposed approach is the implementation of the principles of a system-wide linguistic policy based on the assessment of the sociolinguistic situation in Kyrgyzstan, focused on the harmonization of functional and instrumental factors that determine the functioning of the English language in the country. The article analyses the relationship between the sociolinguistic functions of the English language in Kyrgyzstan and the existing mechanisms of national and international law required for their adequate implementation.
