Abstract
The paper analyzes the semiosis of the title-final complex of the story by E. Verkin (2012), associated with the painting by the visionary artist Chistyakov’s “Cloud Regiment”, which became the key image of the story. The prototype of the “eccentric” painter is the folk Artist Efim Chestnyakov, in whose works national historical heroes, dating back to the archetypes of Russian painting, carry a religious idea that emphasizes the importance of Divine providence in Russian history. Ecphrasis, condensing various historical and cultural meanings, is multifunctional.
