Abstract

It is known that the theater, besides an entertaining role, also performs an educational function. The current level of language culture of the drama theatre and television is insufficient, as evidenced by our research, which involved ordinary audiences and an expert group consisting of stage language teachers, speech therapists, philologists, and phonopods. The main task of the research work was to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of issues – the level of stage broadcasting and professional language competence of the capital theaters and television actors of Ukraine. First, it should be noted that the low level of stage broadcasting was found among the younger generation of actors, most of whom cannot apply the knowledge they acquired at Art University on the stage and transform it into practical level. It is worth mentioning that the problem of admission to theatre universities of Ukraine still relates to the incompetence in language communication. In addition, graduates of secondary schools have insufficient competence in pronunciation, which negatively reflects the initial level of entrants’ knowledge in the creative direction. A few years later, some of them will directly affect the audience of the country's viewers. During the research, we have conducted a survey of viewers of various theatres. Most viewers do not notice the presence of orthoepic, speech errors, but this does not mean that those mistakes do not exist. The viewers are gradually accustomed to hearing the wrong pronunciation on television, radio and in public space, so their phonemic hearing is not set to correct pronunciation. The possible reason of this situation might be the bilingualism of the audience of Kyiv theatres, as the majority of the population in the capital of Ukraine is bilingual. Theatre, cinema and television should become the standard of correct speech, and not continue the trend towards the deterioration of the language culture of our society. The task of creative educational institutions is to find new methods and approaches to teaching the techniques of stage language and to practice new forms in the conditions of modern society needs, taking into account the continuous technical progress. Modern Art University of the fourth level should be the source of forming the well-spoken Ukrainian speech. Key words: stage language, theater pedagogy, speech culture, speech competence, key competencies of an actor, art universities, integration of the educational process.
