Abstract

The article considers the results of the empirical study of young boys’ and girls’ attitude to various time periods of their lives in the context of dispositional optimism. The category “attitude to time” has been described. The attitude to time is viewed as a process and result of comprehension of his or her life by a personality, including the events of yesterday, today, and possible tomorrow, as well as interrelations among them. The author suggests that optimism, being a stable personality trait, reflects positive expectations of a personality about the future. The empirical study has found that the attitude young boys and girls have towards the future varies depending on the level of optimism. Optimists tend to have more coherent results on all factors comprising the structure of the attitude to the present and future compared to pessimists.
