Abstract

The article presents the results of the study of some peculiarities of viability and coping strategies of lean and overweight people both satisfied and unsatisfied with their own body. It has been revealed that the subjects satisfied with their own body show similar indices of viability and coping strategies irrespectively their real body mass. Overweight subjects unsatisfied with their own body show remarkably lower indices of viability, and in personally important situations of all coping strategies they use the strategies of avoidance and taking responsibility more often rather than the strategy of planning to solve the problem. This group of subjects have the attitude to a body that is in a negative correlation towards viability indices and such coping strategies as the planning of problem solving, positive reassessment, and self-control.
