Abstract

This paper attempted to clarify the errors that Chinese learners generally make in the use of the Korean colloquial ending word ‘-the ra’ and the difficulty of using it. For this, we first explored the main aspects of errors common to Chinese Korean learners by doing some survey, focusing on the semantic function of ‘-the ra’. In addition, by collecting sentences in which ‘-the ra’ appears in Korean drama scripts and comparing them with Chinese translations, we tried to find the difference between ‘-the ra’ and Chinese corresponding expressions. According to the results of the survey, it was found that learners prefer to use grammar with less cognitive burden meaningfully such as ‘았/었/였-’ and lack understanding of the modal characterisitics of ‘-the ra’. To find out the native language perception of ’-the ra’ among Chineese learners, we collected and analyzed scripts of Korean dramas ‘Bad Mom’ and ‘The Glory’ and Chinese translations. As a result of the analysis, it was found that direcy evidence can be interpreted as ‘看见/看到,亲自,过, 了’, and when it indicates the speaker’s psychological state, it can be summarized as a Chinese expression ‘觉得/感到’, and it can be interpreted as ‘竟然’and ‘发现’ as expressions of admiration. Sentences containing Chinese-corresponding expressions of ‘-the ra’ have found few grammatical constraints, while Chinese learners find it difficult to grasp the exact meaning function and grammatical constraints of ‘-the ra’.
