Abstract
This study was conducted for the purpose of in-depth exploration of the counselor’s experience in counseling using board games. To this end, nine counselors with more than one year of experience in counseling using board games were recruited as study participants. The interviews lasted an average of 80 minutes. In order to analyze their experience of using board game in counseling, Consensual Qualitative Research(CQR) was applied. As a result of the study, four domains and 16 categories were derived, and the four domains included ‘Experiencing the usefulness of board games as a tool in early counseling work’, ‘Vividly experiencing the client’s transformation through board games’, ‘Experiencing the limitations of using board games in counseling’, ‘Experiencing growth as board game counselors’. The participants thought it is important to choose and use proper board games to apply in their counseling. To be equipped with their competence as a counselor, it is also important to develop their own counseling strategies. Based on the results of this study, the implications of counseling using board games and the suggestions for follow-up studies were discussed.
