Abstract

The article envisages revealing the peculiarities of tourism development in the EU countries in the context of the impact on this process of the Russian-Ukrainian war, taking into account the practical aspect of this issue. It was revealed that the full-scale invasion of the aggressor country on the territory of Ukraine affects the EU tourism industry in four ways: the loss of Ukrainian tourists; restriction of airlines and use of airspace; higher food and fuel costs; a decrease in the confidence of travelers and a reduction in their income level. It has been determined that due to the upheaval from COVID-19 and the war of the aggressor country in Ukraine, EU tourism needs support in the development and implementation of comprehensive risk management plans in order to better prepare for future crises. It has been established that today there is a slower recovery of tourism in Eastern Europe due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. In a show of extraordinary solidarity, local tourism businesses are taking in Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war and helping them with accommodation, transport and food. As a result of such actions, there is a sharp rise in energy prices, which will directly affect the costs of transportation and tourism services, as well as create risks for broad consumer demand in Europe. It was found that despite the war, the EU tourism industry continues to function. Research has shown that tourism has been hit hard by the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, proving its importance as an engine of economic prosperity, jobs, income and well-being. As the sector begins to recover, the economic and social fallout from Russia's war in Ukraine is another blow to recovery prospects. The war in Ukraine, caused by Russia, has the greatest impact on the tourism of those EU countries that share a common border with Ukraine. Yes, the tourism sector faces these challenges in the uncertain future, so sustainable and transformative actions are needed to promote recovery and put tourism on a path to more sustainable and inclusive development.
