Abstract
The article provides a survey of theoretical and lexicographical works on the problem of synonymy in the nominative Russian and the ergative Nakh languages with a view to identify the level of representation of synonymic categorial relations. The study aims to review the basic works on synonymy in the Russian language and the Nakh languages. The analysed papers are presented in chronological order. The author evaluates their strong points, identifies differences between them and concludes on the level of lexicographical representation of synonymic relations in the languages of different structures.
