Abstract

Objectives This study aims to investigate the effects of soil play with natural objects on young children's nature-friendly attitude and creativity.
 Methods For this purpose, the study selected 36 five-year-olds(experiment group: 18, comparison group: 18) attending S Kindergarten in J City, Jeonbuk. Young children in the experiment group engaged in soil play with natural objects for eight weeks on November 7~December 30, 2022, and young children in the comparison group engaged in sand play with artifacts.
 Results The analysis results first show that soil play with natural objects had positive effects on young children's nature-friendly attitude. Secondly, soil play with natural objects also had positive effects on their creativity.
 Conclusions In conclusion, soil play with natural objects is a teaching and learning method to promote young children's nature-friendly attitude and creativity and demonstrates that young children should be provided actively with various activities with natural objects and soil in the field of early childhood education.
