Abstract

For half a century, universities have been actively involved in the processes of internationalization, which, on the one hand, is an objective given in connection with the development of globalization, on the other hand, the internationalization of universities is a controlled process, a purposeful activity of universities to integrate into the regional and global educational space. Within the framework of this study, the authors propose to consider theoretical paradigms (idealism and instrumentalism), as well as the process of internationalization of universities and its consequences (social, academic, political, economic, cultural) in modern conditions. The article reflects changes in approaches to higher education, a change of paradigms, considers the main trends in the evolution of academic mobility, and proposes a number of additional directions for improving universal and specific (in relation to Russian universities) strategies for the internationalization of universities.
