Abstract

The study selected four permanent rental apartment complexes in Daegu which could be the representatives of four different types of neighboring situations; detached housing sites, lot-solid apartment complexes, detached housing sites+green area, and lot-solid apartment complexes+green area. The research firstly and unexpectedly found that the border areas of those complexes showed more social/spatial potentialities than the exclusive borders of other general lotsolid apartments. To find out detailed physical/social characteristics of such border areas of sample cases, maps, drawings and photos of the sites were analysed after several visiting research. The research tried to analyse physical characteristics of border areas lengthwise and breadthwise. After the physical analyse, some significant evidences of residents’ behavior such as kitchen garden or stacking yard were closely examined to figure out the key factors of life street at the border area. The research could found various correlation of these space usages and physical/social characteristics of border areas in permanent rental apartment complexes. The research expected to be a basic data for changing exclusive border areas into life streets with full of potentialities in various complex planning. In a wide perspectives, it would be also utilized for the related policy and design strategy for the fences and border areas of apartment complexes.
