Abstract

This paper is the second part of the publication: Kozlov S. A. Utopia and paternalism in agrarian Russia: Traditions and modernity. Part I: The late 17th century – the 1930s // Manuscript. 2023. Vol. 16. Iss. 3. In the first part, the author presented a detailed analysis of the relationship between the phenomena of utopia and paternalism in the history of agrarian Russia in the late 17th century – the first third of the 20th century. This work will pay attention to the features of the evolution of utopian and paternalistic tendencies during the Soviet and post-Soviet periods and also outline possible directions for realising the potential of paternalism and utopia within the framework of current modernisation in Russia. As a result, the author concludes that in the context of the socio-cultural situation in modern Russia, paternalism and the understanding of the supreme power as the main guarantor of security and further development of the country have been preserved, while utopia as an important phenomenon in the socio-cultural and spiritual life of the people has practically disappeared. A productive revival of utopian and paternalistic tendencies in the development of the country is possible provided their active connection with the eternal ideals of goodness, beauty and social harmony.
