Abstract
The article actualizes the problem of implementing a cultural approach to the study of Ukrainian literature in the context of the tasks of the New Ukrainian School. The textbook of Ukrainian literature is considered as an effective means of developing the key general cultural competence of students. The essence of the definition of «general cultural competence» as one of the main concepts of modern school literary education is specified. The didactic-methodical potential of the current textbook of Ukrainian literature for class 11 students (average level) realization the implementation of the cultural approach in the process of teaching Ukrainian literature. In particular, it focuses on the following conceptual provisions of the study book in the context of the identified problem: the understanding of artistic text as a text of culture that reflects the consciousness of people of a certain age and focuses on dialogue in the cultural space and on the dialogue of cultures; the use of biographical, historical and literary and cultural and artistic contexts in the process of analysis and interpretation of literary works as an effective factor in their deep reflection through the prism of a wide range of historical and cultural phenomena. It is noted that the consideration of fiction and art as forms of synchronous existence and communication of people of various historical and cultural times, which is proposed in the textbook, guides students and teachers to the organization of various forms of dialogue in culture: dialogue with the characters of the artistic work, dialogue with the author, dialogue with literary critics, the dialogue of different types of art. In view of the above, the educational material of the rubrics «The artistic world of the writer’s works» and «Cultural-artistic context» and methodical devices, presented in the headings «Questions and Tasks», «Reading Self-Control», «Your Reading Projects» and «Reading Leisure». Examples of working out of specific educational themes of the textbook on the basis of culturological approach are given. It is argued that such an organization of the educational process will contribute to the creation in the imagination of senior students of a holistic image of a particular cultural age and will influence the development of their general cultural competence.
