Abstract
The first article in the series provides a review of the current situation in the welding of plastics based on thermoplastics. The historical prerequisites for the appearance of various methods of welding of thermoplastics are considered. An enlarged classification of welding methods for parts made of thermoplastic materials is given. The key design, technological and operational factors effecting on the choice of the welding method of plastics are described.
