Abstract

The research objective is as follows: to reveal the specificity of folk instrument sound imitation in Chinese piano works of the XX century. The paper provides the examples of folk instrument sound imitation in piano works by Chu Wanghua, Li Ying Hai, He Luting, Zhao Xiaosheng, Wang Jianzhong and Jiang Zuxin. Scientific originality of the study involves identifying untypical for Western piano school performing techniques the relevance of which is justified theoretically. The conducted research allows drawing the following conclusions: to perform Chinese piano works, pianists should study Chinese musical culture, should acquire a sufficient knowledge on Chinese folk instruments (specificity of construction, sound, sound extraction techniques).
