Abstract

The paper aims to trace universal and nationally specific manifestations of semantic ambiguity in the Russian and English professionally-oriented terminology. Scientific originality of the research involves a new approach to describing Russian and English ecological terminology: the authors for the first time provide an anthropocentric study of semantically ambiguous ecological terms in the Russian language, British and American English. Comparative analysis of Russian and English ambiguous terms of “Ecology” subject area allows identifying universal and nationally specific features of professional terminology.
