Abstract

The issue of urban development in terms of people oriented and economic viability has been discussing for decades in China. With the environmental pollution and redevelopment of city suburb are taken seriously. And to avoid such as green fragmentation and biodiversity loss, it is considered that a wide-area ecological network is needed to understand the spatial changes better. This study take the ‘Green heart’ of Changsha- Zhuzhou-Xiangtang Metropolitan Region in China as an example, using an objective quantization method for structural and functional landscapes, Landscape elements in satellite photos from 1978 to 2019 were classified by time series by ENVI 5.3 and ArcGIS 10.2. the landscape index is quantified by FRAGSTATS. The result shows that: 1)The landscape in this area is dominated by natural ecology since 1978. 2)From 1989 to 2009, landscape fragmentation was obvious due to homestead development and road construction. 3)The ecological index of the construction area gradually tends to be stable since 1999. 4)The landscape isolation of water and wasteland is relatively high, which has a negative impact on landscape diversity. 5) Since 2009, with the implementation of green heart planning, the landscape pattern in this area presented certain regularity. The protection and restoration of landscape is significant to the sustainable development of the ecological environment, and this study is considered to be used as a very important basic data that can be sustainablity developed in the CZT Green-heart of China.
