Abstract

This article examines the role of the higher education system in the context of the transition to a knowledge economy. It is shown that universities are becoming key participants in innovation ecosystems and ecosystems for the reproduction of human capital. This approach contributes to the innovative development of regions, strengthening their competitiveness and the formation of human capital. The study proposed a hypothesis that the organization of interdisciplinary research in universities can contribute to innovative development and the growth of human capital. It was established that there is a connection between the number of interdisciplinary projects in universities and their positions in the ranking in terms of the results of the country’s innovative development.
