Abstract

The possibilities and effectiveness of various methods of radiation diagnostics at the stage of preoperative examination in patients with thyroid pathology accompanied by compression of the neck and upper mediastinum were studied. 69 patients with large goiter (average volume 231.51±102.27 cm3) were selected from the total number of operated patients, of which 11 (15.9%) had a cervical mediastinal goiter. Different diagnostic effectiveness of radiological methods for this pathology at the stage of preoperative preparation has been proved. Ultrasound examination due to the features of the method cannot be considered an objective and informative method of topical and differential diagnostics for large goiter. X-ray СТ and MRI are priority methods for the topical and differential diagnosis of mediastinal goiter and large goiter.
