Abstract
The paper aims to trace structural-semantic evolution of the word “голь” (the poor), to identify influence of word-formative, morphological, contextual peculiarities on semantic structure of the word and field. Scientific originality of the study involves the lexeme comprehensive description in synchronous and diachronous aspects. The findings indicate that this lexical unit fell out of use and nowadays is found mostly in phraseological units and paroemias. The lexeme belongs to the nuclear zone of the semantic field “poverty” but some components of its semantic structure actualize axiologically valuable peripheral features.
