Abstract
Background: Poetry of Czech writer Vladimír Holan still remains one of the most mysterious and enigmatic literary works of XX century. Nevertheless, it is almost unfamiliar to Ukrainian readers. The particular attention deserves great Holan’s poem “A night with Hamlet” (Noc s Hamletem), that was written in 60s – the time when Vladimír Holan became silenced because of his citizen’s stance. The poem uncovers deep philosophical reflections in form of a dialogue between the Poet and Hamlet – main figure of Shakespeare’s tragedy. The specific of poem’s structure and poetic language gains it a significant place both in Czech and world literature. Purpose: The analysis is focused on particularities of structure and poetic language of poem “A night with Hamlet” by Vladimír Holan. Complicated dialogic arrangement of the poem gives unexpected impression of larger multi-leveled poetical work that develops obscure image of Hamlet as one of the most vivid figures in Holan’s poetical work. Results: The paper highlights special meaning of Hamlet’s figure in V. Holan’s poem by analyzing specificities of textual work. In research have been analyzed a number of schemes used by author to intensify the rhetorical sounding of dialogue between Hamlet and the Poet wich gives impression of philosophic conversation in Plato’s Dialogues . At the same time, figure of Hamlet may relate to the work of Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, especially to his conception of three stages of life’s way. By picturing complicated understanding between Hamlet and the Poet Vladimír Holan tries to express difficulties in comprehension of the meaning of human life.
