Abstract
This paper examines the influence of mental arithmetic classes, which are extracurricular courses popular withparents in Russia and neighboring countries, on children from 5 to 14 years old . The authors have analyzed international scientific studies that prove the beneficial effect of mental arithmetic on short-term, auditory and visual memory as well as the child's intelligence. They report the findings of a 2019 study conducted among parents whose children practise mental arithmetic
