Abstract

The article is devoted to generalizing the scientific opinion on the essence of the concept of «competition» and the outline of its features in the context of constructing enterprise competitiveness management systems. It is proved that in order to take into account and compare all aspects and factors influencing the level of competitiveness of enterprises, it is necessary to form the concept of a theoretical approach to the definition of competition as an economic category. Approaches to types of market construction are disclosed. The historical conceptualization of the concept of «competition» in the economy was studied, and the structural approach was considered the most effective for determining the priority areas of managing the competitiveness of enterprises. Also highlighted is the behavioral approach based on the concept of competition for resources and product differentiation and the functional approach, which considers competition as a motivator for innovation. In the context of the structural approach, the criteria for assessing competition are clarified, particularly the analysis of the market structure by participants and their market shares. It is substantiated that the definition of conceptual points of view of the understanding of competition is expedient to be applied in a systematic approach to the determination of rational ways of assessing the intensity of competition, methods, and techniques of conducting a compelling struggle for the conquest of markets, determination of priority directives for the creation of complex measures for the strategic planning of the behavior of subjects of economic relations and their competitiveness, as a factor of ensuring long-term development within the framework of market interaction. The comparison of various aspects of the classification of competition made it possible to focus the methodological range of the development of the system of managing the competitiveness of grain-producing enterprises on actual priorities by considering the target sales markets of the studied enterprises through the prism of the peculiarities of agricultural economic relations.
